Purposes of Homework

There will be several purposes of homework:

1. Completion (e.g., complete work started in class)
2. Practice (e.g., practice solving equations using strategies learned in class)
3. Preparation (e.g., read a chapter in a book to prepare for a class discussion)
4. Extension (e.g., create a webpage showcasing all that you've learned about ecosystems)

In general, homework is designed to foster effective work habits, develop self-discipline, independent thinking, and responsible attitudes.  It is also a great way to develop good study habits.

Here are a couple of other points to keep in mind about homework:
  • homework completion is a learning skill and will be reported as either E (excellent), G (good), S (satisfactory) or N (needs improvement) on the report card.
  • homework will not be marked (e.g., A or 85%).  However, certain questions will be taken up during class time so it is in your best interest to complete your work!
Parents, you can read more about homework in the TDSB's Homework Policy.
